Welcome to 2010 at Capturing Essence Photography

Evening!
Whilst many of you will be nursing hangovers tomorrow, Capturing Essence will have been busily preparing some info blogs to assist you with all aspects of your wedding. We have found that we have long been a source of questions from brides and grooms as to the where's the why's and the how's of weddings.
We have bridal experience- from the dresses, alterations and accessories through to event planning, working with makeup artists and my favourite- ettique or who's wedding is this anyway! We love being asked questions by our couples and by being able to suggest alternitives they may not have thought of creates a fantastic friendship between us and our clients.

The wedding planning books are a great start for any couple, but lack one thing... word of mouth refferals. I personally found these were the most important variable for me personally when planning my day. Somebody's personal recommendation to me always surpasses an advert. When all else fails then the yellow pages, or google for people always helps. There's just something unique in a friend telling you their experience with a company whether good or bad does help in making some tough decisions.

Although this blog will be more Canberra specific I do hope that others find it interesting and helpful.
To kick the year off tomorrow, we'll start with the info closest to my heart-
 'How to choose your photographer'

Better get writing!
Happy New Year and all the best for 2010!

Lots of love,
Capturing Essence Photography

Thank you 2009

Dear All,

I would firstly like to thank all of my clients and friends for such a wonderful year 2009.

It has been a pleasure working for you all-as busy as it has been- it has been well worth the long hours of planning, shooting and editing such exciting wedding and portfolio shoots. I have a few outstanding days which will be stuck in my memory for a long time to come.

Even though there are still jobs now to do, pictures to edit and work to be done, each and every couple I have worked with are so dear to me its a pleasure to work on their images. There have been some fantastic friendships develop out of my jobs.

To be allowed for example to shoot a pregnant belly, then newborn images and THEN the same couples wedding this year was indescribeable. The bond we had made in the first two shoots carried right through to the wedding and we had an absolute blast!
We were taken out into the middle of an icy spring Canberra lake on a showery day and wizzed about in speed boats for their location pictures. all the while hoping the bride wouldnt go in the drink, the camera didnt go in the drink and Chris's split pants would last us until we finished the location pics and headed home.

Capturing Essence expanded slightly this year as well with another set of hands shooting weddings and events with me. I had Chris, my husband come out with me on a couple of models portfolio shoots to assist with equiptment and reflectors etc. One of the shoots he asked if he would be able to shoot in the background and with the models permisssion off he went. He's the tech nerd of the outfit so understands the theory behind an SLR just had never been able to put it into practice.
I combined his images in with my own for the makeup artist and model to select their pictures from and two of his were chosen.

Later on in 2009 we put together 'Captured' as a thank you to my models who have assisted in building Capturing Essence's portfolio and name. Chris's two images made the book and he's been so pleased with himself ever since. Needless to say my extra pair of hands soon became another shooter.

We are expecting a little addition to Capturing Essence in April 2010. We are certainly still working and shooting as always it never stops in our household :) Things will not be as hectic as this year was, but we are certainly still taking on shoots and weddings from August 2010. As winter is generally slower and quieter in Canberra it all fits in so nicely. Chris will be around until October 2010 with the prospect of being posted after this date, however is free to book anytime as well.

The Capturing Essence website, http://www.capturingessence.com.au will be redone over the coming months with some fantastic new additions so keep your eyes out! I have the added bonus of one of my brides being a marketing genius who has set me some exciting prospects for 2010 and beyond. Watch this space as they say!

Once I'm back in full swing I hope to continue to grow, develop and learn with each and every shoot I work on. The mentoring I received from Steven Murray (creative image photography) and Kelly Tunney (Kelly Tunney photography) this year was second to none. They welcomed me on board with open arms and I must say it was so refreshing to have two people who loved to share their passion with other photographers. They enjoy watching people grow and develop their skills.
You couldn't ask for two better mentors X Thanks guys!

In the meantime, I hope you all enjoy your holidays, rest up and stay safe. I hope the new year brings you all much luck, joy and happiness.

Keep your eyes and ears out! We will be back in 2010 bigger and better than 2009!

Lots of love,
Jules and Chris

White Crane Creations

White Crane Creative

Bethen Timiney
0422 512 253

I have had the pleasure of working with Bethen over the weekend photogrphing her latest collection of oragami Kimono's. All of her works are made from imported Japanese papers and no two kimono's are the same. The detail of these is simply stunning and I couldn't help but fall totally besotted by them- so much so I have three on order for upcoming birthdays!!!

The Kimono's can be made into cards, bookmarks, a pressie for a bridal couple, thank you's or simply a stunningly framed piece of artwork. Bethen's sister also writed haiku's to accompany many of the kimono's to add the extra touch to something so uniqely special.

The rest of her collection can currently be seen at www.capturingessence.com.au/Crane.html as her website is being built. I hope you love them as much as I do and give her a call to make you a unique artwork piece!

May 2009 in Canberra

For most of the Canberra wedding industry, May is the time we all take a huge sigh of relief and start to wind down for a couple of months rest.
I know personally I haven't stopped since August of last year and a chance to relax and contemplate the past few months is long over due.
However: I have already begun to plan shoots for August through to next year already and started heading off to courses to expand my knowledge.

I'm sure there are events and industry things on to go so drop in a line and let me know what's going on and i'll post it.

With the cooler climate comes a lot more snuggling and keeping warm but also SNOW! Bring on the snow shoots of 2009!!! I'm up for one...are you game?

Night shoot

Night shoot

About 4 months ago, Kristie Maynard of Chic Visage came up with a plan to do a night shoot at the beach. Both of us at the time had absolutly no idea how or if it would work out for us and we put the idea on the back burner for a while.

With the addition of the new camera, lighting from her husband- Thanks Darce. Amanda Knuckey on hair (you can never go wrong with manda!) and the gorgeous Lucy willing to brave the evening ocean we were set for a fun shoot.

Lucy was on her second photoshoot ever- yes ever! You certainly can't tell. She's another up and comer in the industry that I belive once she's spotted will go onto bigger and better things! She's already a featured extra in the Wolverine movie and we're all eagerly waiting to see if the scenes remain in the movie or not! I for one can't wait!!! Just remember us Lucy when you're cruising the world rich and famously! :)

All seemed to go to plan and I believe that Chic is happy with her photos and can't choose some for her portfolio either! I know I can't! hahah I can't imaging how on earth Lucy will!

Thanks again to all of you who helped out on the shoot I think the late night was well worth the effort!

Rebecca Frith Photoshoot

Rebecca Frith shoot- Sydney

There are just so many images I really like from this photoshoot! It was too hard to choose which to put up. There are still more which I am in the process of editing now which will pop up at a later date once I do them. Again teaming up with Chic Visage whilst we were both in Sydney met Rebecca Frith- an upcoming star I believe. She is just fabulous to work with and will certainly go a long way!
The last two images above were taken by my husband and business partner Chris on his first photographing assignment. He is always in the background at other shoots but with the extra camera body floating around ( I had the new one :) ) He couldn't resist.
I really love his perspective he captured and I think later down the track will be a valuable addition to the team.

Love Jules

Beauty Shoot #1

Beauty Shoot #1

Chic Visage collaborated with Sheryn Arthur (Hair Stylist) to create a series of beauty images for Chic's portfolio.

As always model Julia supplied the gorgeous face to work with and above is the best from the shoot. There are a couple of others I will add later but to date... this one's my favourite

Beach shoot #1

Beach shoot #1 was a really really challenging weekend for all involved. External factors created an interesting challenge for us all however all the girls were fantastic and worked really hard.
We all came away with some fantastic images making it hard on all of us to select our favourites.
The file uploader for images isn't working for some reason so here is a link to the posted images :)

I hope you enjoy them

How the months fly!

Ok.... So i'm a little behind on my blog and its not by weeks, it has now officially been months. Capturing Essence has been a busy little business since February's and today I hope to update you all on the pictures I love.

It has been a fabulous time working with the ever fabulous Chic Visage, Rockstars and Royalty and a newbie to my list of people to work with, Jacqueline Scott. Jacqui came in at the last moment on her day off to assist with a fun jewellery shoot for Rockstars and Royalty and did such a gorgeous job! Thanks again X

We have ventured to the coast again for a final beach shoot before winter. A night time and early morning shoot that left all of us delierious with lack of sleep. 3 hours is a challenge for anyone!

I've started doing beauty photoshoots with local makeup artsist after meeting and attending a Rae Morris masterclass. She is such an amazing makeup artist it was really interesting to hear her point of view.
That very same weekend, Chic Visage and I worked with the stunning Rebecca Frith in Sydney on a portfolio photoshoot which had some surprising results. With my brand new camera in tow it was a great opportunity to see how it worked- and boy did it work!

I am also in the process of producing a porfolio album of work from late 2008-2009. I am really pleased with a lot of the images that have been produced, I just didn't realise just how many images I had! It's been a tough couple of weeks choosing the favourites- Hope you like it Vick! xxx

There are that many images to post I will have to do each shoot individually.
I hope you enjoy them!

Take care and stay safe
Love always

Capturing Essence has been given some publicity by the folks at Prestige publications after the recent bridal fair in Canberra.
Its a nice start to 2009 and my year is already starting to fill up!
2010 brings about a year of travel and fun with 6 weddings already booked and NONE are in Canberra. Not bad for my second year of being afloat.

Wedding of Jodie & Patrick
June 2008
This wedding was one of my first truely solo outings. It was a Sydney wedding with a local Canberra couple. I still adore their images and wanted to put them on the blog for you to see.
I know the couple were very happy with the images as Jodie had trouble trying to drive home as she was sneaking a peek at her albums.

Jodie's dog even got pictures taken. She's a very old pup so needed to be apart of the family photos.

At the church- The bridesmaids arrive

The weather was not on our side, In fact it is one of two weddings i have done where it has thrown it down. It didn't deter the couple from getting some gorgeous images!

Ah old romance, the bride got the umbrella... The groom a little damp.

Over the next few weeks i'll begin to put up some of the newer wedding images but if you want to see more sooner, please head to
www.capturingessence.com.au and view my portfolio online.
Happy new year! I wish all the best of health and happiness for the new year!
